Author Tom Clancy (1947 – 2013) Passes Away

Famed author, Tom Clancy, has passed away at the age of 66. The news was initially reported by the New York Times after Clancy died at a hospital in Baltimore last night. He was best known for his technically detailed novels of espionage and military science that were often set during and in the aftermath of the Cold War.

Ivan Held, the president of publisher Putnam, said Clancy was a “thrill to work with.”

Clancy was the writer behind dozens of bestsellers including “The Hunt for Red October,” Red Storm Rising,” “Patriot Games,” “The Cardinal of the Kremlin,” “Clear and Present Danger,” “The Sum of All Fears,” “Without Remorse,” “Debt of Honor,” “Executive Orders,” “Rainbow Six,” “The Bear and the Dragon,” “Red Rabbit,” and “The Teeth of the Tiger.”

Several of his novels have also been turned into movies such as his Jack Ryan titles, The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, and The Sum of All Fears. A new Jack Ryan movie is also in the works at Paramount starring Chris Pine.

Clancy later went on to co-found Red Storm Entertainment in 1996 which has made games featuring his name. It was later bought by Ubisoft, which continues to use the Clancy name for titles.

His next book, “Command Authority,” is planned for publication on December 3.
