“True Detective” Creator Reveals Season 2 Details

We finally have some details about the next season of HBO’s “True Detective.” The series will be in the anthology format, introducing a self-contained case at the top of each season with a new cast.

The series creator, Nic Pizzolatto revealed that season 2 will have three lead actors. Unfortunately season one’s Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are not expected to return for season 2.

“The characters are all new, but I’m deeply in love with each of them. We’ve got the entire series broken out with a couple scripts, and we’ll probably start casting in earnest within the coming month,”Pizzolatto said.

Season one was set in the Louisiana bayou but season 2 has Pizzolatto moving the show west.

“It takes place in California — not Los Angeles, but one of the much lesser known venues of California. And we’re going to try to capture a certain psychosphere ambiance of the place much like we did in season one,” he said.

It seems that even in the beginning, Pizzolatto was aware that McConaughey and Harrelson would likely be a one-season deal.

“With two guys like that, I guess the concession would be, we’re not going to use them again,” he said. “People who do have active cinematic careers aren’t going to want to come back for six years or five years.”

Right now we do not have any details on what the actual plot of season 2 will be but we can expect more info over the next few months as it moves into production.
