“Stargate” Trilogy With Roland Emmerich Announced

MGM and Warner Bros. announced this week that they are launching a new trilogy of films based on the 1994 film Stargate.

The original film starred Kurt Russell and James Spader (also know as the man who sends shivers down my spine). At the time of release it set the record for the highest-grossing opening weekend in October and later went on to earn nearly $200 million worldwide in the box office.

The plot centers around the premise of a “Stargate,” an ancient ring-shaped device that creates a wormhole enabling travel to a similar device elsewhere in the universe. The film’s central plot explores the theory of extraterrestrial beings having an influence upon human civilization.

Roland Emmerich is on board to direct. He also directed and co-wrote the original film with Dean Devlin. The new trilogy will also be produced by Devlin.
