Amazon Launches Kindle Unlimited – Subscription Service

Last week Amazon announced a new subscription based service for unlimited access to digital titles. Kindle Unlimited, described as “Netflix for books” offers users access to nearly 640,000 titles for the flat rate of $9.99/month.

The Kindle Unlimited service also includes a Whispersync for Voice option, this allows users to switch between reading a book and listening to a book at any time.

According to the Amazon website, you can “check out” 10 books at a time, but you can keep them for as long as you want.

There is no word yet on how this service will affect author’s royalties. Currently it appears that publishers Hachette, HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, Macmillan, and Penguin Random House have not signed on to the service yet.  Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Algonquin, Bloomsbury and Open Road Media books are currently available on Kindle Unlimited..

Amazon is offering a 30-day free trial for Kindle Unlimited, which you can check out here.
