Rhys Ifans Joins Showtime’s Trending Down

Showtime’s upcoming comedy series, “Trending Down” is securing a star-studded cast. Rhys Ifans, known for his role in The Amazing Spider-Man, has signed on for the series joining Oscar winning actor, Philip Seymour Hoffman and critically acclaimed actress Kathryn Hahn.

“Trending Down” focuses on a man, Thom Payne, as he faces his own obsolescence when his advertising agency is taken over. Hoffman and Hahn will be in the lead roles of Thom and Lee Payne while Ifans will portray the character of Thom’s boss, Jonathan Clow.

This American Life contributor Shalom Auslande is writing and executive producing the series that was developed by Ken Kwapis, who will also executive produce, and Alexandra Beattie, who will co-executive produce, under their In Cahoots banner. The pilot of “Trending Down” will be directed by John Cameron Mitchell. Philip Seymour Hoffman and producing partner Emily Ziff will also executive produce under their Cooper’s Town Productions banner.

The pilot will begin filming this fall. No word on a release date.
