“Gravity” Rocks Box Office With $1.4 Million Thursday Night

The movie that I haven’t seen yet but is already giving me nightmares, Gravity, released in theaters this past Thursday where the sci-fi thriller performed well. The film earned $1.4 million in ticket sales in the U.S. The movie is expected to hit $40 million in its debut, although the studio is predicting a more modest $35 million debut.

Gravity stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. It follows two astronauts left floating in space when their space shuttle is damaged. The film released in 3D, IMAX, and 2D theaters everywhere. It is expected to also win the upcoming box office weekend.

Gravity cost roughly $100 million to produce, and is selling a higher percentage of 3D tickets (91 percent) than any title in Fandango’s history, including James Cameron’s Avatar.
