Mario and Zelda Creator Teases “New Franchise” For 2014

Shigeru Miuamoto has always been one of my favorite games designers and chances are you respect him as much as I do, unless you hate the Mario and Legend of Zelda franchises. If that is the case, YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY NOT SANE. Who doesn’t love at least one game from those franchises? Okay, that is a little harsh, though maybe you will change your mind with something new. The legendary game creator recently teased fans regarding a new franchise for 2014 (this could be his change to win you over!) However, he has yet to announce what this means and when we can expect answers.

“We’ll have Mario Kart 8 out next spring, and at that point we’ll have the whole lineup in place, so I think it’s about time we brought out a new franchise,” Miyamoto said in the latest issue of Famitsu (as translated by Polygon). “I can’t give out details, but that’s the title that’s been keeping me pretty busy lately.”

The first time we heard rumblings that we could expect something new was back in January 2012 when Miyamoto told the Associated Press that he was working on an “undisclosed original title.” Though no other information was given at the time, we can only assume its going to be awesome.

What we do know in terms of new releases from Miyamoto is that he is currently working on the Wii U game, Pikmin 3 which is due out on August 4th. His most recently released title was Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon for the 3DS.
