Set in present-day Washington, D.C., House of Cards is the story of Frank Underwood, portrayed by Kevin Spacey, a Democrat from South Carolina’s 5th congressional district and House majority whip who, after being passed over for appointment as Secretary of State, initiates an elaborate plan to get himself into a position of power. His loyal wife, Claire Underwood, played by Robin Wright,  assists him in this endeavor. The series is primarily about ruthless pragmatism, manipulation, power, and doing bad things for the greater good.

As with previous seasons, all episodes of season three will be available to steam beginning of the 27th. You can see the announcement below:

Netflix Is Now Streaming In 4K

netflix

Netflix has begun streaming in 4K, at least on a few shows. Currently the Netflix Original Series, “House of Cards” as well as some nature documentaries are now available to stream in 4k/Ultra HD.

It should be noted that you need to have a TV that supports the higher resolution.

The programs that are included in the Ultra HD will appear with a tiny label so you know you are getting the extra pixels. Currently, Netflix is limiting 4k streaming to only TVs with Netflix and HEVC/H.265 decoding capabilities built in.

HDTVtest.com notes that the higher resolution stream really shines with “bright, colorful scenes” adding that the images were “rendered with greater sharpness and smoother gradients.”

Still, the bitrate of these streams are only around 15 Mbps so while the picture will be superior to HD Netflix, this flavor of 4K is not a true demonstration of the higher resolution. HDTVtest.com adds that to their trained eyes, some Blu-ray titles still offer a cleaner image.

Despite the fact that season 2 hasn’t premiered yet, Netflix has officially renewed “House of Cards” for a third season. Production for the third season is set to begin soon.

All of the episodes of season 2 will flood our brains and Netflix next friday on February 14th. That’s right, celebrate the holiday of love, with some of the worst people on television. And I will LOVE IT.

“House of Cards” stars Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright.

In the second season, Francis (Spacey) and Claire (Wright) Underwood continue their ruthless rise to power as threats mount on all fronts. Zoe Barnes (Kate Mara), an up-and-coming reporter and Francis’s former paramour, is inching closer to the truth about his crimes. President Walker’s (Michel Gill) billionaire confidante Raymond Tusk (Gerald McRaney) demands that Francis reciprocate political favors or face retribution. And Claire must confront the increasing glare of the spotlight as it eats away at her and Francis’s once private existence. The Underwood’s must overcome these dangers — past and present — to avoid losing everything, regardless of collateral damage they leave in their wake.

House of Cards Returns to Netflix on February 14

After spending two weeks binge-watching the first season of “House of Cards” with Liam Koopa, I can safely say this: I haven’t love-hated a cast of characters so much since “Mad Men.” The show about some of the worst people in politics is utterly amazing. Thankfully, the premiere of season two on Netflix has been announced as February 14, 2014.

As it is a Netflix Original Series, all 13 episodes will be available instantly beginning that friday for Netflix users.

From director David Fincher (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Social Network), award-winning playwright and Academy Award nominated screenwriter Beau Willimon (Farragut North, The Ides of March) and Academy Award winner Eric Roth (Forrest Gump, Munich, The Insider), this critically acclaimed drama slithers beneath the curtain and through the back halls of greed, sex, love and corruption in modern Washington D.C.

The second season will pick up as Francis and Claire Underwood continue their ruthless rise to power as threats mount on all fronts. “House of Cards” stars Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright, who both received Emmy nominations for their performances in the first season.

Netflix Orders New Original Series

netflix

The age of Netflix Original Series have been great, I think we can all admit. (Except for “Hemlock Grove.” I mean C’MON.) Monday, the company announced their next original series endeavor, the currently untitled project from the creators of “Damages.”

The upcoming series will have a 13 episode run and will be produced by Sony Pictures Television. It comes from the great minds of Todd A. Kessler, Daniel Zelman and Glenn Kessler (KZK). According to Netflix, the show will focus on a family of adult siblings whose secrets and scars come to light with the return of their black sheep brother.

“We were spellbound after hearing Todd, Glenn and Daniel’s pitch and knew Netflix was the perfect home for this suspenseful family drama that is going to have viewers on the edge of their seats,” said Netflix original content vp Cindy Holland. “Their work on Damages was truly ahead of its time and we’re proud to be bringing our viewers this upcoming series.”

Sony TV president of programming and production Jamie Erlicht, added,

“The guys worked so hard to come up with the right idea after the success of Damages. It took almost a year to fully develop the pitch, and their patience paid off with the incredible reaction in the community, especially at Netflix, the perfect home for this show.”

Netflix has produced great original series like “House of Cards” and “Orange is the New Black” not to mention bringing my favorite show of all time, “Arrested Development.” (I am still disappointed with “Hemlock Grove though.) I cannot wait to see how their next original series turns out and from the description, I’m sure it will be a doozy.

The news series is set to begin production in early 2014.
