It was also announced this year that he was cast as the Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Star Wars Han Solo stand-alone film.

Chuck Berry Announces His First Album in Nearly 40 Years

Iconic singer and songwriter, Chuck Berry has just turned 90 but that hasn’t slowed him down apparently! He has officially announced a new album – his first in 38 years.

The new album is titled “Chuck” and will reportedly featured brand new music that Berry recorded with his children. Berry produced the album himself according to Pitchfork. “Chuck” is dedicated to his wife of nearly 70 years, Themetta.

Berry said in a statement. “My darlin’ I’m growing old! I’ve worked on this record for a long time. Now I can hang up my shoes!”

“Chuck” is set for a 2017 release via Dualtone.

The Shins to Release New Album in Early 2017

Shins’ frontman James Mercer has officially announced that the band will be releasing their fifth studio album in early 2017. Mercer announced the news in a recent interview with Portland’s KBOO 90.7.

“My intention was to have the record come out this year, but there’s inevitably these reasons that the label or whatever wants to postpone release, just so that they have more time to set things up,” he said.

The decision to postpone the release came from the label in order to work with the fact that artists’ revenue has become highly dependent on live performances. Mercer explained that festivals, Coachella in particular, are powerful influencers and release dates play a vital role in lineup placement.

Mercer described the forthcoming album – which is currently untitled – as sounding closer to their firth three albums rather than their most recent album, Port of Morrow. The slight change is sound is mainly due to Mercer producing the albums himself.

“I made a concerted effort on certain songs to fit the palette, to use the palette that I’ve used historically for the band,” he said.

He added that his “songwriting is stronger than it ever was.”

There is no word on the official release date or name of the album but it is expected to release in January of 2017.

There is no exact release date yet unfortunately but we do know it is this year. You Want It Darker will be released via his longtime record label, Sony Records. New Gorillaz Album “Should Be Ready Fairly Soon”

Good news everybody! According to a recent interview with Damon Albarn, a follow-up album to the 2010 Gorillaz album, Plastic Beaches, is on the way.

Last year, he and band co-founder Jamie Hewlett announced that they will producing another album and anticipated a release in 2016. However, since then we hadn’t heard much. Then, in a recent post on an Instagram fan account, @gorillaz.northamerica, Hewlett confirmed that the LP is more likely to drop in 2017 much to fan’s chagrin.

Yet, we got some good news recently. In an interview with BBC Radio, Albarn commented that he is “loving it” and that the album is “getting there” and that it “should be here fairly soon.” He mentioned that production is still ongoing but that it should all come together by the end of the year.

We don’t know much about the album or content, but collaborator Remi Kabaka shared a picture of Vic Mensa in the studio on May 17. Gorillaz are reportedly working with the Chicago rapper on the project.

Check out an excerpt from Albarn’s interview below.

Father John Misty Releases New Song, “Real Love Baby”

Honeybear, Father John Misty released a new song unannounced this past week on his official soundcloud (and it is pretty fantastic.) The new track is called “Real Love Baby” and was accompanied by the caption “why not.”

Father John Misty, whose real name is Josh Tillman, released an intensely amazing album in February of last year titled “I Love You, Honeybear.” He is currently  embarking on a tour of Europe but will return to the U.S. early next month to perform at Governor’s Ball in New York City.

You can listen to “Real Love Baby” below:

Willow Smith and Michael Cera Release Unexpected Collaboration

What? I mean what? Willow Smith, the exalted soul that none of us can supposedly understand released a new song on Soundcloud this week with a producing credit attributed to Arrested Development actor and indie musician Michael Cera.

The new song is titled “twentyfortyeight 2.0” and you can hear it below.

The collaboration was released after Smith tweeted about Cera and called him “extremely beautiful” in a post last week.

Surprisingly, the song is pretty beautiful. Smith’s voice is very lullaby like over the steady yet simple beat. She sings, “We’ve manufactured a society/That runs on the backs of those/Who choose to victimize.”

Radiohead Unveil “Daydreaming” Video & Album Release Date

After months (or years really) Radiohead has finally released a new video AND the official date for their new album.

The new song, “Daydreaming,” is utterly beautiful and it is accompanied by a phenomenal video  directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. Radiohead has also released the song “Burn the Witch” last week to much acclaim.

Even better, the band announced that the digital version of the new album—which still seems to be unnamed—will be released tomorrow, Sunday, May 8. Physical copies of the album will release on June 17.
