Will Smith seems to be single handedly holding up production for the highly anticipated Independence Day sequel. Due to the fact that he hasn’t confirmed whether or not he will reprise his role in Independence Day 2, director Roland Emmerich has told Indiewire that 2 separate scripts had to be written. One with his involvement and one without.
However, this speed bump has not brought down Emmerich who still seems optimistic stating, “it’s looking good.”
Very little information has been released about the film’s plot or cast especially in regards to which stars will be reprising their original roles. Emmerich confirmed that a number of the original film’s characters appear in the script(s) by Dean Devlin and himself. The 1996 original also starred Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, Randy Quaid, Mary McDonnell, Brent Spiner, James Duval and Vivica A. Fox.
Independence Day 2 is set for a release on July 3, 2015.
