Sony Adapting Sonic the Hedgehog For Film

Sonic

I am not really sure how this is possible but it is happening. “Sonic the Hedgehog” is heading to the silver screen. What’s more is that it will be a live action/CGI hybrid. Yeah.

The project is coming from 22 Jump Street’s Neil H. Moritz and Sony, with help from Marza Animation Planet’s Takeshi Ito and Mie Onishi.

So far very little is known about the adaptation aside from it is being written by Evan Susser and Van Robichaux and it “hopes to play off the irreverent and fun-loving spirit of the game, bringing the world’s fastest hedgehog back together with some of the franchise’s best loved (and most infamous) characters – including the evil Dr. Eggman.”

Hannah Minghella, Columbia Pictures’ president of production said in a press release,

“There are limitless stories to tell with a character like Sonic the Hedgehog, and a built-in international fan base. Along with our wonderful creative partners at Marza, we’re looking to capture everything that generations of fans know and love about Sonic while also growing his audience wider than ever before.”

Currently, there is no official plot announcement or anticipated release date. I am not excited to say the least.
