Starz officially announced last week that it is developing a new series called “Storyville” that is to be set in New Orleans during the turn of the 20th century. It will examine the world birth of Jazz and the “exceedingly vibrant, hedonistic, celebratory subculture” that emerged during the era.
Starz Managing Director Carmi Zlotnik said,
“We’re glad to be working in partnership again with Colin Callender and Playground Entertainment on this series and with one of Broadway’s most respected producers and directors, George C. Wolfe for the first time. His love and expertise in this particular world will allow us to take viewers back to turn-of-the-century New Orleans during the birth of jazz in the midst of profound corruption.”
George C. Wolfe is set to serve as screenwriter and director. Colin Callender’s Playground Entertainment is producing the series. The series is based on an original idea by Wolfe.
There is word on when “Storyville” will begin production or an anticipated premiere date.
