How I Met Your Mother Alternate Ending on Complete Series DVD

If you were among the millions upset my the ending of “How I Met Your Mother” then good news! Co-creators of the series, Craig Thomas and Carter Bays announced that they will be putting an alternate ending for the finale on the Season 9 DVD release and the Complete Collection set.

Here’s what Bays had to say (via his Twitter) earlier today:

“First of all I want to say thank you for the lovely messages from everybody who loved the [HIMYM finale]. If you didn’t like the finale, I guess that happens. We tried something and it didn’t connect with you. I hope we’re still friends.

So anyway, here’s a bit of news: 16 days ago today we were in the HIMYM edit room, trying to decide between two very different endings. We only shot one script, but through edit room magic we had two possible outcomes for the series. We chose the ending we chose and we stand by it. But we loved the other version too. We’re going to include that version on the Complete Series DVD as an alternate finale to How I Met Your Mother.”

Thomas had a similar statement prepared, adding,

“There is always a Plan B. We stand by what aired and we are proud of it. But you guys came on such a long journey with us — we want to give you BOTH!”

No word if the set will also include those alleged 18 extra minutes that were cut from the hour-long final episode (although that seems likely).

There is no word on what the alternate ending features but we can assume than it does not end with Ted and Robin together. Or at least it better not.

How I Met Your Mother Spin-off Moving Forward at CBS

It was reported a few weeks ago that CBS was eyeing a “How I Met Your Mother” spinoff series, very creatively entitled, “How I Met Your Dad.” Now, it is official. CBS has ordered a pilot for the series from Emily Spivey (“Up All Night”) and “Mother” co-creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas. The three will write the script for the pilot and executive produce.

The new show will be THE EXACT SAME THING as HIMYM but an all new female lead and her zany group of friends. While I personally think that a show showing the events of the original series from the eyes of the mother would be AWESOME, that is not what CBS is going for. At least at the moment. Contrary to initial rumors, the new leading lady will not be tied in with HIMYM in any way. What a missed opportunity CBS, seriously.

There is no word yet on when “How I Met Your Dad” (why isn’t this called How I Met Your Father?) will premiere or who the studios are eyeing for cast. The project will be produced through 20th Century Fox Television, which is currently responsible for HIMYM.

CBS Targets a Potential How I Met Your Mother Spinoff

The hit CBS series, “How I Met Your Mother” is in its final season and it appears the network is considering a possible spinoff for the series. I can only hope that the spinoff has a little more payoff than 8 seasons of teasing the introduction of the titular character. YOU CAN ONLY STRING ME ALONG FOR SO LONG! Deadline is reporting the spinoff is tentatively and creatively titled, “How I Met Your Father” and would focus on a female lead with her group of friends likely doing similar nutty antics.

Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, the creators and producers behind HIMYM are reportedly teaming up with “Up All Night” creator and executive producer Emily Spivey to develop the new show. Early plans would have the new lead introduced in the final episodes of “Mother,” with the potential existing for current show’s popular characters to guest star on “Father.”

Currently, HIMYM stars Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris and Alyson Hannigan, is produced by 20th Century Fox with Pamela Fryman, Chris Harris, Stephen Lloyd, Chuck Tatham and Kourtney Kang also serving as executive producers.

There has been no word on who the studio is looking to star in the lead role for the spinoff.

It feels like CBS is missing an opportunity to tell the story from the mothers perspective rather than cast a whole new set of stars.
