CBS Targets a Potential How I Met Your Mother Spinoff

The hit CBS series, “How I Met Your Mother” is in its final season and it appears the network is considering a possible spinoff for the series. I can only hope that the spinoff has a little more payoff than 8 seasons of teasing the introduction of the titular character. YOU CAN ONLY STRING ME ALONG FOR SO LONG! Deadline is reporting the spinoff is tentatively and creatively titled, “How I Met Your Father” and would focus on a female lead with her group of friends likely doing similar nutty antics.

Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, the creators and producers behind HIMYM are reportedly teaming up with “Up All Night” creator and executive producer Emily Spivey to develop the new show. Early plans would have the new lead introduced in the final episodes of “Mother,” with the potential existing for current show’s popular characters to guest star on “Father.”

Currently, HIMYM stars Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris and Alyson Hannigan, is produced by 20th Century Fox with Pamela Fryman, Chris Harris, Stephen Lloyd, Chuck Tatham and Kourtney Kang also serving as executive producers.

There has been no word on who the studio is looking to star in the lead role for the spinoff.

It feels like CBS is missing an opportunity to tell the story from the mothers perspective rather than cast a whole new set of stars.
