Donald Glover, star of FX’s “Atlanta,” has announced a new album under his other moniker Childish Gambino! He also released his first new music in two years which you can listen to and watch above.
The new song is titled “Me and Your Mama” and the track will be the lead for the upcoming new album which is titled Awaken, My Love!, due out December 2.
Glover is pretty much winning this year. He just wrapped the first season of his critically acclaimed FX show Atlanta. He joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe when he was cast in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming. It was also announced this year that he was cast as the Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Star Wars Han Solo stand-alone film.
FX has officially ordered the pilot for series, “Atlanta” from actor and writer Donald Glover. He is most known for starring on “Community,” writing for “30 Rock,” and as rapper Childish Gambino.
“Atlanta” will revolve around two cousins on their way up through the Atlanta rap scene whose opposing views on art versus commerce, success and race will make their quest anything but easy. Glover will play “Earnest ‘Earn’ Marks,” a college drop-out who reconnects with his long-buried ambition and sets out to seize the life he imagined for himself when his estranged cousin becomes a sudden star.
Glover will also serve as Executive Producer for the series alongside Paul Simms and Dianne McGunigle of Schiff Company. The pilot will be produced by FX Productions.
The news was announced by the Presidents of Original Programming for FX Networks and FX Productions, Nick Grad and Eric Schrier
“Donald Glover is a uniquely talented actor and performer who brings real-life experience to this subject matter,” said Grad. “Not only is Donald a very gifted actor, he has achieved tremendous success and acclaim as the musical artist Childish Gambino. He, along with Paul Simms, has a very honest, sometimes serious, and funny perspective on life, the world of rap music and the city of Atlanta.”
David Gelb’s upcoming horror film, Lazarus (formerly known as “Reawakening.”) has been set for a January 30, 2015 release date from Lionsgate.
Besides being a horror film junkie, I am most excited about the cast. Lazarus stars Olivia Wilde, Mark Duplass, Donald Glover, Evan Peters and Sarah Bolger.
In the film, when a team of research students mapping the human brain accidentally kills one of their own, they unwittingly unlock a deadly force by reanimating their colleague. Fighting for their own lives, the team must contain their colleague in the lab before she is unleashed on the world.
Written by Luke Dawson and Jeremy Slater, Lazarus is produced by Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions.
While I am saddened at the idea of Donald Glover not being in the next season of “Community,” that pain is dampened a bit by the fact that he has officially signed a deal to write, produce, and star in a half-hour comedy pilot for FX. TVLine has confirmed the news this week. My conflicted emotions of sadness but also hopefulness could only be expressed by the above gif.
