While I am saddened at the idea of Donald Glover not being in the next season of “Community,” that pain is dampened a bit by the fact that he has officially signed a deal to write, produce, and star in a half-hour comedy pilot for FX. TVLine has confirmed the news this week. My conflicted emotions of sadness but also hopefulness could only be expressed by the above gif.
According to Deadline, the project will be titled, “Atlanta” and will be set against the backdrop of the music scene in the city. Glover who grew up in Atlanta, is also known in the music industry by his stage name Childish Gambino. The series will focus on his musical skills as well as comedy prowess.
Glover will be leaving “Community” in the fifth episode of the fifth season. Series creator Dan Harmon described his departure to TVLine as ”devastating” and “heart-wrenching.”
There is no word on when the series will premiere on FX or who else will star alongside Glover. If the series is anything like “Portlandia” than I will be happy.
