As “American Horror Story: Hotel” fills up its cast, a new face has joined the upcoming season of veterans. “New Girl” star, Max Greenfield, has officially joined the anthology series for its fifth season.
Ryan Murphy, the series showrunner, tweeted that Greenfield would appear “like you’ve never seen him” and hinted at a potentially fatal storyline, writing that he’ll be “checking in to the hotel … but not checking out.”
Greenfield joins Lady Gaga, Matt Bomer, Angela Bassett, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson,Kathy Bates, Chloe Sevigny, Wes Bentley and Cheyenne Jackson.
The fifth season of “American Horror Story” will take place in a haunted hotel and is set to debut in October. Greenfield will also appear in the fifth season of Fox’s New Girl, which will debut in January.
“New Girl” season 4 officially adds Damon Wayans Jr. as season regular. He was previously billed as guest star for season 3 despite appearing in 17 consecutive episodes.
Wayans Jr. starred in the pilot episode of “New Girl” before dropping out when the pilot was ordered to series.
“It’s hard to balance six characters, let alone five, but he has worked so well with so many different people,” executive producer Brett Baer told THR on Monday. “We’ve had him do stories with everybody and he just killed it.”
“New Girl” stars Zooey Deschanel, Max Greenfield, Jake Johnson, Lamorne Morris and Hannah Simone.
The series has received favorable responses from critics, who named the show one of the best new comedies of the 2011 fall season. The pilot episode drew 10.28 million U.S. viewers and a 4.8 adults 18–49 demo rating, making it the highest-rated fall debut for a Fox scripted show since 2001. Particular praise has been given to the performances of Deschanel, Greenfield, Johnson and Morris. Max Greenfield was considered the show’s breakout star in season 1, before critics named Jake Johnson the breakout star of season 2. The show has been nominated for several awards, including five Golden Globe Awards and five Primetime Emmy Awards.
Coach is staying! (For the season at least.) Damon Wayans Jr. is reportedly staying on for the rest of this season of “New Girl” on Fox. The series is in its third season and stars Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson, Lamorne Morris, and Max Greenfield.
Wayans plays the character of Coach, a former loft mate who only initially appeared on 2011 pilot episode. However, he left the series due to the renewal of his other series, “Happy Endings.” Before the season-three premiere of “New Girl” however, it was announced that Coach was returning as Wayans booked a six-episode arc on the show.
His first episode back, “Coach,” saw his character returning to the fold and moving in with Schmidt. Now, it looks like he will be remaining in the group for the remainder of season 3. Whether or not he leaves again or will be bumped to series regular for season 4 has not been revealed.
