J.K. Rowling Writes Another Harry Potter Short Story

For someone who has said she is done writing the “Harry Potter” world, she sure seems to keep returning to it often. J.K. Rowling has yet again written another short story set in the wizarding world.

Posted on her website Pottermore.com, Rowling released a story about a character called Celestina Warbeck, a little known side character mentioned a few time within the saga.

Rowling told NBC’s Today Show that Warbeck was a singer who is similar to the 1950’s singer Shirley Bassey. She said,

“Celestina Warbeck is one of my favourite ‘off-stage’ characters in the Harry Potter series, and has been part of the Potter world ever since its inception, making an early appearance in the short-lived ‘Daily Prophet’ series I produced for members of the equally short-lived fan club run by my British publisher, Bloomsbury. Although we never lay eyes on Celestina during the whole seven volumes of the Potter books, I always imagined her to resemble Shirley Bassey in both looks and style. I stole her first name from a friend with whom I worked, years ago, at Amnesty International’s Headquarters inLondon; ‘Celestina’ was simply begging to be scooped up and attached to a glamorous witch.”

Here are some of the details of the character:

Birthday: Aug. 18

Wand: Larch and phoenix feather, 10 1/2 inches long, flexible

Hogwarts House: Gryffindor

Special abilities: Ability to drown out a chorus of banshees, tap-dancing, fancy baking

Parentage: Wizard father, Muggle mother

Family: Has married three times; one son

Hobbies: Traveling in fabulous style, breeding rough-coated Crups, relaxing in any of her eight homes

J.K. Rowling Releases New Harry Potter Short Story

If you have spent the last few years wondering what has happened to our favorite wizarding trio, Ron, Harry, and Hermione, J.K. Rowling has quenched your worries. The author has released a new short story revealing what has happened to the characters since the book’s ending.

Fans can read the story on Pottermore. The story was written in the style of fictional Daily Prophet “journalist” Rita Skeeter. You can see some highlights below.

  • 34-year-old Harry is described as having “threads of silver” in his hair, as well as a new scar on his right cheekbone to match his infamous lightning bolt. While his children James and Albus are present, however, wife Ginny is not, leading Rita to speculate there could be trouble in paradise.
  • Viktor Krum makes an appearance, with Harry greeting him with a hug.
  • Hermione and Ron remain happily married. Ron has changed career; though initially starting out as an Auror like Harry, after two years Ron elected to leave the Ministry and instead stepped into the position of co-manager at Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes. Hermione, meanwhile, has ascended to the lofty heights of head of the Department for Magical Law Enforcement.
  • Neville Longbottom remains professor of Herbology at Hogwarts, and is married to Hannah.
  • Luna Lovegood is married to Newt Scamander’s grandson, Rolf, with whom she has twin boys.
  • Bill Weasley remains married to Fleur, despite the inevitable difficulties of his affliction.
  • Teddy Lupin, Harry’s 16-year-old godson, meanwhile, is still carrying on with their daughter Victoire.
