Falling Skies Renewed For Fourth Season

falling-skies-season-3

TNT officially announced today that they have renewed their popular sic-fi series, “Falling Skies” for a fourth season. The drama is produced by DreamWorks Television with executive producer Steven Spielberg. The series stars Noah Wyle as well as Moon Bloodgood, Will Patton, Drew Roy, Connor Jessup, Maxim Knight, Seychelle Gabriel, Mpho Koaho, Colin Cunningham and Sarah Carter. Among the guest stars this season on Falling Skies are Gloria Reuben, Robert Sean Leonard, Stephen Collins and Doug Jones.

The series tells the story of the aftermath of a global invasion by extraterrestrials (including mechanical attack drones called “mechs”, a species of green-skinned six-legged beings known as “Skitters” that appear to control the mechs, and a third mysterious species known as the Overlords, or “espheni”, presumably the actual engineers of the invasion and the masters of the Skitters). Within a few days the invaders neutralize the world’s power grid and technology, destroy the militaries of all the world’s countries, and kill over 90% of the human population. The aliens’ objectives are not explained, though the aliens try to round-up children between the ages of 8 and 18 and attach a biomechanical obedience device onto (and into) their spines, referred to as a “harness”. The harness controls the child’s mind, and forcibly removing it generally kills the child. The story begins six months after the invasion and follows a group of survivors who band together to fight back.

“Falling Skies” is currently airing Sunday nights at 10 p.m. (ET/PT). The show averages 5.8 million viewers in Live + 7 delivery and ranks as basic cable’s #1 scripted series with adults 18-49 and adults 25-54 for the summer-to-date. TNT plans to launch the 10-episode fourth season in summer 2014.

In addition to Spielberg, season 3 of “Falling Skies” is executive-produced by DreamWorks Television heads Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank, along with Remi Aubuchon and Greg Beeman.
