I would be lying if I didn’t admit that LittleBigPlanet is the reason I first bought a PS3 when the game first came out in 2008. The PS3 exclusive game and subsequent sequels (and Sony’s acquisition of the developer) are some of the most well-known games with one of the more iconic mascots.
With its popularity and rumors buzzing about the release of a third game in the series, it was revealed by Sony that there have been 8 million user-created levels since the game was first released. It assumed that the figure is limited to LittleBigPlanet, LittleBigPlanet 2, and LittleBigPlanet PS Vita — since they are all connected — and doesn’t account for LittleBigPlanet on PSP or LittleBigPlanet Karting.
I can at least say I created about 10 of those levels yet the 8 million number is quite staggering.
Most of the games in the series have been well received by critics with the LittleBigPlanet on PlayStation 3 and PSP gaining Metacritic scores of 95/100 and 87/100 respectively. LittleBigPlanet 2 garnered nearly as much acclaim as the first game with an average score of 91/100. LittleBigPlanet PS Vita also received critical acclaim and was the highest-ranked PS Vita game at the time of its release with an average score of 88/100.
Are you a part of LittleBigPlanet’s still-thriving community? Are you looking forward to a possible third iteration in the series?
