A sequel film to 2009’s hit film, Zombieland is on the way. Sony confirmed the news this week and also revealed that Dave Callaham has been hired for the film. Reportedly, Ruben Fleischer will be overseeing the script with plans to direct but this hasn’t been confirmed.

Zombieland was written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. It starred Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin. It followed four people as they made their way across country during a zombie apocalypse.

A few years ago Amazon filmed a pilot episode for a “Zombieland” series but eventually the project was passed on. Since then, Sony has been developing a sequel film. Reese blamed the pilot’s failure on negative comments from “diehard Zombieland fans.”

Callaham is most known for writing the recent Godzilla reboot.

There is no word yet on whether the 2009 cast will return for the sequel. More news on the project is expected to become available over the next couple months.
