With the movie version of video game “The Last of Us” movie forward, we still know very little about the plot and the cast has yet to be confirmed. However, recently, the game’s director as well as writer of the film script, Neil Druckmann, was able to give fans a little bit of insight into the film.
In an interview with Game Informer (via Gamespot), Druckmann revealed that the second draft of the film script has been completed. Also a table read for the film adaptation has taken place with “a bunch of actors” but he didn’t say who. Though fans desperately hope that “Game of Thrones” star Maisie Williams will be cast in the lead role of Ellie.
The biggest revelation was that the script for the film version has some big changes compared to the video game plot. Druckmann said,
“(It’s) Pretty faithful to the game. There are some big changes, but the tone and what the story’s trying to say is pretty faithful to the game.”
“The Last of Us” follows hardened survivor Joel and Ellie, a young and capable girl, on their journey through a radically transformed world. Set twenty years after an infectious pandemic spread by the cordyceps virus ravaged the course of humanity, these two people, who were brought together by chance, must make life-altering decisions in order to survive. The Last of Us explores themes of survival, loyalty, love, and redemption in an emotionally charged expedition across a post-epidemic United States.
Druckmann will co-produce the film along with Naughty Dog Co-Presidents’ Evan Wells and Christophe Balestra, Game Director Bruce Straley, and Sam Raimi via the Ghost House Pictures banner.
