It was recently announced by Sony that the highly anticipated release of “Uncharted 4” has been delayed even longer. It will now release sometime in spring 2016. Sad faces ensue.
The directors of the game, Neill Druckmann and Bruce Straley, released an official statement to reassure fans that the delay was in their best interest. They said,
“Since we showed you our first gameplay reveal of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, more of the game and story have come together and it’s become clear to us that this game is much more ambitious than we originally envisioned,” said Druckmann and Straley about meeting expectations on the title. They continued, “”After spending so many years with Nathan Drake, he means a lot to the team, and telling the climactic chapter of his adventures is a task we don’t take lightly—this game deserves every bit of the attention to detail, precise pacing and nuanced storytelling Naughty Dog is known for.”
This is another game in a long list lately of games that fail to meet their initial launch date. Usually due to the growing technology of latest gaming consoles and systems and desire to have the games look as good as possible. Recently Driveclub, Bloodborne, The Witcher 3, Watch Dogs and Batman: Arkham Knight have all experience delays.
Druckmann and Starlet added that the wait would be worth it for players, stating,
“So we’ve made the difficult choice of pushing the game’s release date. Giving us a few extra months will make certain that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End not only meets the team’s high standards but the high standards that gamers have come to expect from a Naughty Dog title.”
The official release day for the PS4 exclusive has not been announced.
With the movie version of video game “The Last of Us” movie forward, we still know very little about the plot and the cast has yet to be confirmed. However, recently, the game’s director as well as writer of the film script, Neil Druckmann, was able to give fans a little bit of insight into the film.
In an interview with Game Informer (via Gamespot), Druckmann revealed that the second draft of the film script has been completed. Also a table read for the film adaptation has taken place with “a bunch of actors” but he didn’t say who. Though fans desperately hope that “Game of Thrones” star Maisie Williams will be cast in the lead role of Ellie.
The biggest revelation was that the script for the film version has some big changes compared to the video game plot. Druckmann said,
“(It’s) Pretty faithful to the game. There are some big changes, but the tone and what the story’s trying to say is pretty faithful to the game.”
“The Last of Us” follows hardened survivor Joel and Ellie, a young and capable girl, on their journey through a radically transformed world. Set twenty years after an infectious pandemic spread by the cordyceps virus ravaged the course of humanity, these two people, who were brought together by chance, must make life-altering decisions in order to survive. The Last of Us explores themes of survival, loyalty, love, and redemption in an emotionally charged expedition across a post-epidemic United States.
Druckmann will co-produce the film along with Naughty Dog Co-Presidents’ Evan Wells and Christophe Balestra, Game Director Bruce Straley, and Sam Raimi via the Ghost House Pictures banner.
It has been several months since the rumblings of a live action film adaptation of “The Last of Us” was mentioned but at Comic-Con last week, Screen Gems confirmed it is in the works. The adaptation is to be produced by Sam Raimi with Naughty Dog Creative Director Neil Druckmann as the writer. The studio released a poster for the film at Comic-Con which you can see above!
Even further, Druckmann revealed that they are looking at “Game of Thrones” star Maisie Williams for the role of Ellie. He said they met with her but as of right now there is no official deal. There has been no talk about the role of Joel as of yet but it could easily be played by the voice actor from the video game, Troy Baker, as he motion captured the character as well.
“The Last of Us” is a PlayStation game that won several “Game of the Year” awards in 2013. It follows two survivors, Joel and Ellie. It takes places twenty years after an infectious pandemic spread by the cordyceps virus ravaged the course of humanity, these two people, who were brought together by chance, must make life-altering decisions in order to survive. Ever since the creator and writer of the “Uncharted” game series left Naughty Dog, fans were left wondering what was to happen to the franchise? (Especially considering “Uncharted 4” had already been announced for PlayStation 4.)
However, don’t fret your tiny little faces off, it appears that “The Last of Us” directors are poised to take over. Game Informer has reported that Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley are taking the lead role for the upcoming game.
Naughty Dog Co-President Evan Wells stated that,
“It’s not so much of a transition period, actually. We’ve asked them to lead the project.”
The duo is not new to the “Uncharted” franchise thankfully. Both worked on “Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.”
The upcoming fourth installment in the series hasn’t gotten an official name yet but is likely to be revealed at this year’s E3 press conference.
Neil Druckmann of Naughty Dog Games has revealed that the remastered edition of “The Last of Us” on the PlayStation 4 will display character models closer to high-fidelity.
“We don’t build it with high assets in mind to then port it, but it did give us a leg up,” Druckmann told the publication which is available now in print and digitally. “If we hadn’t done that, we might not have made the call to bring it over to PS4.”
He also explained that in order to bring the celebrated game to the PS4, the team has to start from scratch with an entirely different architecture.
“Our cinematics are now running at 1080p and 60fps, and that involved rendering them all from scratch. It’s interesting that now [instead of a technical bottleneck], the bottleneck is ‘Can we fit all this on the disc?'”
Thankfully for those who already own the game on the PS3 will be entitled to get the game on PS4 for a discount.
“The Last of Us Remastered” is scheduled for release in the third or fourth quarter of 2014.
Dark Horse Comics has officially released the paperback version of “The Last of Us: American Dreams.” The graphic novel is set a short time before the events of the popular video game, The Last of Us created by Naughty Dog about a fungi-infected world. The companion graphic novel was co-written by Faith Erin Hicks and Neil Druckmann, while Hicks also provides the artwork for the comic.
“The Last of Us: American Dreams: follows Ellie and her best friend, a girl named Riley. Although Riley never appears in the game, the two girls’ friendship provides important context for Ellie’s behavior.
If you want to take a sneak peek, you can read the first six pages of the comic on the Dark Horse website.
Naughty Dog, creators of the game that most recently made me cry known as “The Last of Us,” recently released an image from an alternate ending of the game. The image was released via Twitter when creative director Neil Druckmann posted the image stating, “See how it originally ended.”
