It has been several months since the rumblings of a live action film adaptation of “The Last of Us” was mentioned but at Comic-Con last week, Screen Gems confirmed it is in the works. The adaptation is to be produced by Sam Raimi with Naughty Dog Creative Director Neil Druckmann as the writer. The studio released a poster for the film at Comic-Con which you can see above!
Even further, Druckmann revealed that they are looking at “Game of Thrones” star Maisie Williams for the role of Ellie. He said they met with her but as of right now there is no official deal. There has been no talk about the role of Joel as of yet but it could easily be played by the voice actor from the video game, Troy Baker, as he motion captured the character as well.
“The Last of Us” is a PlayStation game that won several “Game of the Year” awards in 2013. It follows two survivors, Joel and Ellie. It takes places twenty years after an infectious pandemic spread by the cordyceps virus ravaged the course of humanity, these two people, who were brought together by chance, must make life-altering decisions in order to survive. The Last of Us explores themes of survival, loyalty, love, and redemption in an emotionally charged expedition across a post-epidemic United States.
