ITV and BBC announced last week that the popular series, “Broadchurch” had been officially renewed for a third season and in even better news the shows stars David Tennant and Olivia Colman would return reprise their roles.
Tennant plays DI Alex Hardy alongside Colman as Ellie Miller in the pseudo police procedural series. The first two seasons of the of the series, which explores what happens to a Dorset community after a young boy is murdered. The community deals with being part of the investigation and the eventual discovery of the murderer.
The series was created and written by Chris Chibnall who will return for the third and possibly final season. ITV’s Director of Drama Steve November said,
“Chris Chibnall knows exactly how to keep viewers guessing and I’m delighted that he is going to take the story onto the next stage.”
Chibnall added,
“We’ve been overwhelmed that nine million people every week have continued to join us on the twists and turns of Broadchurch. This third chapter has been a glint in my eye for a long time and I’m thrilled to be writing these characters once again.”
Season 2 of Broadchurch will premiere in the U.S. on BBC America on March 4 at 10 pm ET.
