Games With Gold For June 2014 and an Update For Gold Members

Games with Gold

Microsoft’s Game with Gold program is getting an update in June 2014. The program is finally hitting Xbox One next month!

Next month Xbox One players will get “Max: The Curse of Brotherhood” and “Halo: Spartan Assault.”

If you are a Xbox 360 player, June will bring you an extra game on top of the typical two due to the one-year anniversary of the program. The games will be “Dark Souls,” “Charlie Murder” and the bonus title, “Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition.”

Another update announced was that Microsoft will begin selling a Xbox One without the Kinect for $399 USD on June 9. In addition, they are ending the Gold membership requirement for streaming apps, like Netflix and Hulu.

Microsoft Considering Xbox 360 Backwards Compatibility on Xbox One

It is safe to say fans were unhappy when it was first announced that the Xbox One would not be backwards compatible with the 360. “If you’re backwards compatible, you’re really backwards,” said former Xbox chief Don Mattrick. However, now that they are under new management it looks like things might change.

According to Xbox partner development lead Frank Savage, Microsoft is working on a solution to get Xbox 360 games on Xbox One, but players at home may never get to experience it themselves. During a developer conference, Savage confirmed that Microsoft is tinkering with the idea of backwards compatibility, however there was one small problem. Getting software made for drastically different hardware to run on another machine is a tricky proposition.

“There are [plans], but we’re not done thinking them through yet, unfortunately,” said Savage, as reported by Kotaku Australia. “It turns out to be hard to emulate the PowerPC stuff on the X86 stuff. So there’s nothing to announce, but I would love to see it myself.”

Unfortunately there are currently no plans to begin implementing the backwards compatibility but at least they are thinking about it right?

Microsoft Office Comes to iPad

Microsoft Office has finally come to iPad. iOS users can now get Word, PowerPoint, and Excel designed “from the ground up” for the tablet. The best part is that users will not be required to use a keyboard or mouse to operate the apps.

Content and formatting of Office documents will be maintained whether you access them via computer, tablet, or phone. Documents can also be retrieved and accessed easily through Microsoft’s cloud service OneDrive.

The Office apps have both free and paid versions, downloadable via the App Store. The free version will allow users to read and view their documents; the paid version, accessible via an Office 365 subscription, will go one step further by allowing users to edit their documents. Subscribers can install Office for iPad on up to five devices, in addition to the five copies available for PC and Mac.

“This isn’t simply Office on another device,” Microsoft said in their announcement. “We thought a lot about what people want to do when they’re on their tablet, iPad functionality, and touch-first when we were building Office for iPad.”

Additionally, Office Mobile – which was previously free to Windows Phone users – is now also free for those using iPhones and Android devices.

Office for iPad is available for iPads running iOS 7.0 or later.
