Alicia Vikander Is Going To Play Lara Croft In The Tomb Raider Reboot

Alicia Vikander, the actress who you might recognize from the stellar science fiction film Ex Machina, has been cast in the Tomb Raider film reboot as British archaeologist/badass Lara Croft.

Reportedly, Vikander won the role over several other high profile acctresses who were in the running for the iconic role including Daisy Ridley, Saoirse Ronan and Emilia Clarke.

Croft is more than iconic, really. The character was created for 1996 video game Tomb Raider and later made famous by Angelina Jolie in the early 2000s film adaptations. The film adaptation rank as one of the best movie adaptations of a video game.

The video game franchise was also fantastically rebooted recently to much critical acclaim. So it makes sense they want to reboot the films too.

Vikander as taken the acting world by storm with her strong performances over the last few years. She won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in The Danish Girl and was intense and straight up sexually confusing as the android Ava in Ex Machina.

There is no word on the plot of the rebooted Tomb Raider and no word on when it will begin production or anticipated release date.

Daisy Ridley May Be the Next Lara Croft

Daisy Ridley is one of the biggest and hottest stars now thanks to her huge role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and it looks like she is getting even hotter. Ridley is one of several actresses being considered for the leading role of Lara Croft in the upcoming Warner Bros and MGM’s Tomb Raider reboot according to reports from Deadline.com.

The casting and eventual role of Croft is still unknown but conversations with Ridley have taken place. At the moment, no offers have been made to her for the lead role. Producers have not made any offers to any one though at the moment.

Although the film is based on the long-running video game series of the same name, this would be the second incarnation of Croft on the silver screen. She was very famously played by Angelina Jolie in two Tomb Raider films. This reboot is expected to be based on the 2013 video game rebooted franchise, Tomb Raider, The movie reboot is believed to be based on the game reboot, 2013’s Tomb Raider, which depicts the origin story of a young Lara Croft.

Games with Gold March 2015

Games with Gold

This is the best Games with Gold lineup I have seen in a long time, at least for Xbox 360 gamers. If you are a Xbox 360 or Xbox One gamer than you may or may not know that every month you get 1 -2 free games with your Live membership. These are the games for March 2015.

Xbox 360 gamers from March 1 – 15 get “Tomb Raider” for free. Then from the 16th through the end of the month you get “BioShock Infinite.” Those are some truly great deals.

“#IDARB” is returning for the second month in a row for Xbox One. The second game is “Rayman Legends.” It is an updated version where Rayman and pals on a quest through beautiful scenery and enjoyable platforming.

Keep an eye out for the Games with Gold April 2015 announcements because that month is a Microsoft Milestone. On that date, over 100 million free titles have been downloaded by Xbox Live Gold members. To celebrate, in April there will be four Xbox 360 titles on offer and two new Xbox One games.

“Rise of the Tomb Raider” Announced

Crystal Dynamics officially announced this week in Microsoft’s E3 conference that “Rise of the Tomb Raider” will be coming Holiday 2015.

The trailer shown during E3 featured iconic Lara in an obviously very distressed mood as she is undergoing therapy after the events of 2013’s “Tomb Raider.” Like most of the raider games, she is also seen sneaking through caves, killing enemies, and scouring for treasure.

“In the next chapter of her journey, Lara must use her survival skills and wits, learn to trust new friends, and ultimately accept her destiny as the Tomb Raider,” Microsoft said. “Featuring epic, high-octane action moments, Rise of the Tomb Raider will take gamers to multiple locations around the world filled with exploration spaces that are some of the most beautifully hostile places on earth. In addition, after hearing the cry from fans loud and clear, the game will put the tombs back into “Tomb Raider” all in the franchise’s gritty Survival-Action style.”

Rise of the Tomb Raider for Xbox One is available on Amazon for pre-order. You can watch the trailer below:
