The casting rumors for Star Wars: Episode VII are swirling lately as production gets closer to beginning. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Michael Fassbender (my secret boyfriend), Adam Driver, and Hugo Weaving are now in the running for roles in the film.
The roles they are eyeing have not been revealed, however.
Jesse Plemons, who might know as Todd (the bastard) from “Breaking Bad,” has also auditioned for a role in Star Wars: Episode VII. The actor is scheduled to meet with director J.J. Abrams next week after taping a well-received audition, and one assumes his resemblance to a younger Mark Hamill would put him in the role of Luke Skywalker’s son in the movie, although no actual role has been revealed. TheWrap found no less than three sources for this information.
The report also gave new details regarding the film including Michael Arndt’s departure from the project being due to creative differences. The original draft of the script was set to focus on the offspring of Han Solo, Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker, with the original cast taking on supporting roles. Now it appears that director J.J. Abrams wants to make Luke, Leia and Han the focus of the film, giving fans a proper “send off” for the characters before their offspring becoming the focus of future sequels in the franchise.
At the moment, none of the casting rumors have been confirmed by production.
Star Wars: Episode VII will be directed by Abrams and is being scripted by Abrams and Kasdan, who previously wrote the franchise’s Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, with Tommy Harper and Jason McGatlin serving as executive producers. The film will open in 2D and 3D theaters on December 18, 2015.
