Dear White People is on its way to become a Netflix Series and we couldn’t be more excited. The Justin Simien crowd funded film was one of the best releases of 2014 and stands to be a classic.

Now the Netflix Series will continue to be amazing. Simien is signed on to write the series as well as direct the first episode. No word yet on whether the original cast from the film will join the series but we can only hope. What we do know is that the concept of the series will be very close to the movie. It will follow students of color as they navigate “post-racial” (but not really) landscape of a prestigious, mostly white Ivy League-type college.

The original film cast included Tyler James Williams, Tessa Thompson, Kyle Gallner, Teyonah Parris, Brandon Bell, Malcolm Barrett, and Dennis Haysbert. Simien won best first screenplay at the 2015 Spirit Awards for the film as well as the Directors to Watch award at the 2014 Palm Springs International Film Festival, and U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Talent at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival. He was also nominated for the Bingham Ray Breakthrough Director Award at the Gotham Independent Film Awards while actress Tessa Thompson won breakthrough actor for her role in the film.

“Dear White People” the series is expected to release on Netflix sometime in 2017.
