I like Lebron James as much as the next guy. I mean he was phenomenal in Trainwreck. But does SpaceJam need a sequel? The remake or reboot is already on shaky ground as original Space Jam director Joe Pytka is slamming the upcoming project.
The sequel to the Michael Jordan 1996 blockbuster was seemingly confirmed earlier this month with James taking the lead role. However Pytka has some very serious advice for Space Jam 2 director Justin Lin.
Don’t do it,” Pytka told the Hollywood Reporter Thursday. “It’s doomed. Michael Jordan was the biggest star on the planet. When we did Space Jam, there was a perfect storm of players and ex-players available—Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing,” Pytka said. “They all had a persona that complemented the film. There are none around like that now.” Pytka also argued that LeBron has been “eclipsed” by Steph Curry, not to mention that the film won’t realistically be anywhere near completion for at least two more years.
James hasn’t officially signed on for the movie yet but a rep for J.R. Smith toldTMZ that producers had already been making calls about getting everyone on board, including the real life teammates of James.
Netflix shipped out their first rental DVD disc in 1998 and it is safe to say that the home entertainment world hasn’t been the same since. The streaming and DVD rental company has changed and grown with the times of movies and television. Going from just renting out DVD’s to streaming almost anything, to now making their own in house content.
But in that 18 years of rentals to millions of customers, they wondered what titles were the most popular. So they looked into it. Here are the 100 most rented movies and TV shows from the last 18 years of their service. (By the way, in case you were wondering, the first movie they ever rented out was 1998’s Beetlejuice. And for some reason that is amazing.) It is also interesting that the first 25 most rented products are all television shows. Maybe Netflix was onto something way early on.

It was announced recently that a movie based on the video game “Tetris” is moving forward for some reason and even weirder is that it is going to be a trilogy.
According to Larry Kasanoff in an interview with Deadline Hollywood. “It’s not at all what you think. It will be a cool surprise.” Kasanoff also told The Wall Street Journal: “This isn’t a movie with a bunch of lines running around the page. We’re not giving feet to the geometric shapes.”
The Tetris Company had previously released a similar statement about the movie saying,
“In this new universe, as you’ll soon find out, there’s much more to Tetris than simply clearing lines.” Henk Rogers, the game’s founder, once stated the essence of the game resonates with the human desire to create order out of chaos.
What we do know at the moment however, is that Tetris the Movie will be live action filmed in China with an all Chinese cast.
Production will begin on Tetris the Movie in 2017.
It is almost time for the theatrical release of the third Star Trek film and we have a brand new trailer to tide us over for the next two months.
Star Trek: Beyond sees Captain Kirk, Spock, Uhura, and the rest of the crew of the Starship Enterprise battling back against possibly their most dangerous foe yet. In the trailer we see The Enterprise being ripped to shreds in an attack and some of the crew, including Uhura have been taken hostage by the new alien bad guy Krall played by Idris Elba!
The third entry in the new franchise is the first to not be directed by J.J. Abrams unfortunately but it still looks pretty great. Star Trek Beyond will be directed by Justin Lin this time around.
“The one thing I wanted to make sure is that it hopefully represents that we are trying to be bold and take risks, whether we are successful or not, I don’t know,” he said. “The inside baseball version of the creation of this Trek was pretty condensed in how you usually make a movie of this size. And I wanted us to be bold, I wanted us to take chances.”
Star Trek Beyond is set to debut in the theaters July 22. Watch the new trailer below:
Yet another installment in the Insidious franchise is hitting theaters. Insidious: Chapter 4 has been announced for a release date of October 20, 2017. Blumhouse released an officially announcement which you can watch below.
The fourth chapter sees the return of Lin Shaye reprising her role as the parapsychologist Elise Rainier.
Series co-creator Leigh Whannell will be writing the film while Jason Blum, Oren Peli and co-creator James Wan will be serving as producers. The film will be directed by Adam Robitel, who you might recognize as being responsible for indie horror film, The Taking of Deborah Logan.
There is no official announcement of what the plot will be for Insidious: Chapter 4 or when production will begin. You can watch the announcement below:
I am still not convinced on this adaptation. On one hand it has Michael Fassbender who is brilliant most of the time. On the other, video game adaptations in to movies are notoriously bad. So, I am still in the “wait and see” camp. However, the first trailer has arrived officially for Assassin’s Creed the movie.
Fassbender plays Callum Lynch who finds out that he’s been saved from apparent death by an organization determined to use the memories of his ancestors, possibly for nefarious means. Traveling back in time to the memories of his assassin ancestor Aguilar de Nehra, he must develop the skills that will allow him to fight back in his own time.
Assassin’s Creed is due to hit theaters on December 21. Watch the trailer below:
According to recent reports, Bill Murray, Josh Hutcherson and Linda Cardellini have signed on to star in director John McNaughton’s upcoming crime romance The King of Counterfeit.
The film follows two enterprising counterfeiters taken under the wing of both an exceptional and (exceptionally) crooked lawyer who becomes their mentor. After perfecting the art of producing counterfeit money, the two face big problems when a murderous fellow con is threatened by their particularly good game.
The King of Counterfeit will have a screenplay written by James Sclafani with Mike Medavoy, Robert Greenhut and Murray producing.
There is no word yet on when the film will begin production or an anticipated release date.
A new report from The Hollywood Reporter has said that Jurassic World co-writer Derek Connolly is set to write the script for Legendary‘s upcoming Pacific Rim 2.
We don’t know if Connolly is writing a fresh new script or rewriting the current draft of the sequel that was originally written by Zak Penn.
There are not many plot details released for this sequel. When it was first announced, it was said that the sequel would take place many years after the original film and saw a world where Jaegers were commonplace. But who knows if that is the case now.
For Pacific Rim 2, “Marvel’s Daredevil” season 1 showrunner Steven S. DeKnight will make his feature directorial debut.
Connolly has also written the script for upcoming sequel to Jurassic World and another monster film called Kong: Skull Island.
Pacific Rim 2 was originally scheduled for release on April 7, 2017 before being pushed to August 4, 2017 and ultimately removed from the calendar altogether. In a statement, Universal declared they were “committed to having ‘Pacific Rim 2” though no new release date for the film has been announced.
There is no word yet on when the sequel will begin production or an anticipated release date.
