According to a report from Deadline, Roland Emmerich requiring the script to the Independence Day sequel to be rewritten.
Emmerich, the director behind the highly anticipated sequel, is reportedly asking screenwriter Carter Blanchard to overall the script for Fox. The first draft was done by Emmerich and Dean Devlin, and then later James Vanderbilt.
Currently, Emmerich hasn’t spoken out about how this rewrite will affect the rumored plan to release back-to-back sequels, tentatively titled ID Forever Parts I and II.
ID Forever will take place twenty years after the original, when reinforcements of the original alien race arrive at Earth after finally receiving a distress call.
Bill Pullman will reprise his role in the sequel while Will Smith will not. Though one of the characters will the stepson of Smith’s character in the original film. Jeff Goldblum will also return.
However, despite all the issues, Independence Day 2 is still currently slated for a July 1, 2016 release.
