Despite proclamations by Danny Pudi that The Greendale Gang would “be back next year and, if not, it’s because an asteroid has destroyed all of human civilization. And that’s canon,” NBC has pissed off the collective internet and officially cancelled “Community.”
We are definitely in the darkest timeline.
It seems the show and their devoted fan base couldn’t make six season and movies happen. EW is currently reporting that Sony will indeed try to find a future for “Community,” either on cable or a streaming service. As EW notes, the show airs in syndication on Comedy Central, while Hulu owns the digital rights, making those two obvious potential outlets.
It is also possible that Netflix could continue the season like it has done for previously cancelled shows such as “Arrested Development” and “The Killing.”
“Community” starred Joel McHale, Yvette Nicole Brown, Gillian Jacobs, Alison Brie, Danny Pudi, John Oliver, Jim Rash, Jonathan Banks and Ken Jeong.
