Normally, I am not a fan of television shows who try the whole “time jump” thing to wrap up their tale. But, I am also convinced that HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire” can do NO WRONG so there we are.
When “Boardwalk Empire” returns for its fifth and final season, HBO revealed that things will be very different. Seven years different to be precise.
Michael K. Williams explained in a recent interview that the shiny and glittery days of the 20’s are over in season five and the Great Depression is setting in for the characters. As a bit of background, season 4 ended in 1924 so the seven-year jump would take us past the Stock Market crash of 1929 and into the Depression.
Does this mean Nucky will finally know what is like to struggle with… economic hardships? However, this is doubtful, as prohibition didn’t end until 1933, so it is likely that the horrible Mr. Thompson is still in play for the time moment.
Currently, there is no official word on when season five will premiere.
