If only he hadn’t made that last page choice. The creator behind the “Choose Your Own Adventure” books passed away last Sunday. R.A. Montgomery was 78 and the cause of death has not been made public.
Montgomery created and began publishing the unique book series beginning back in 1977. He started with the first installment, “Sugarcane Island” which he wrote for Edward Packard. Two years later he sold the series to Bantam Publishing.
The “Choose Your Own Adventure” series has now ended up with 230 books while selling about 250 million copies worldwide.
While he did not write all of the 230 books in the series, he did write about 50 between all the books in the series and various spinoffs.
As of recently, there has even been talk of adapting one of his books into a movie.
