Jonathan Franzen is officially releasing a new novel! According to Jonathan Galassi, president of Farrar, Straus & Giroux, his next novel, “Purity,” will officially release in September 2015.
Galassi explained to The New York Times that “Purity” has a “fabulist quality” and that “It’s not strict realism. There’s a kind of mythic undertone to the story.”
Franzen’s UK editor Nicholas Pearson told The Guardian,
“Purity is the story of a young woman searching for the father she has never met, a journey that brings her into the orbit of an outlaw-hero of the internet.”
Pearson described the novel as “a book about secrets: both state and corporate secrets, and the power of secrets within families, how they connect us to others and how they affect our emotional lives. This time the story is told in a slightly different register to its predecessors—a realistic novel with a faint, dreamlike texture.”
Franzen’s previous novel’s were bestsellers and highly acclaimed. “The Corrections” released in 2001 and “Freedom” released in 2010.
