Idris Elba Eyed as Next James Bond Says Leaked Sony Email

luther-bar

A lot of has been revealed since the Sony Email leaks have come to light and a lot has happened as a result. But one of the most exciting bits of information that has been found because of the leak has been the next actor in the James Bond role may or may not Idris Elba. To that I say:

IDRIS ELBA ALL THE THINGS!

Once the current actor in the franchise, Daniel Craig is finished playing the role via his contract, it appears that studio heads at Sony are eyeing the British actor to take over the role. Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chairman Amy Pascal sent an email on January 4, 2014, to Elizabeth Cantillon, former executive vice president of production for Columbia Pictures, which distributes the Bond films. that simply said,

“Idris should be the next bond.”

Nothing more, nothing less. But that’s all we need to get into a tizzy about the possibilities.

If he does end up taking the role, it would be the first time that 007 would be portrayed by a black actor and Elba is the epitome of suave and classy all the time already. Jamie Foxx reportedly agrees and has wanted Elba to be Bond for a while. He said once,

“I ran into Idris and I said, ‘You know you’re the motherfuckin’ James Bond, right?’”

Elba has also said he’d love to play the role if offered.

Elba is most known for playing James Luther on the BBC crime drama series “Luther” and for his role of the HBO series, “The Wire.” He has also been in films such as Prometheus and Pacific Rim.

The next Bond film will be its 24th iteration and is titled, Spectre. It is scheduled to release in theaters on November 6, 2015. The Sony leak also affected this production revealing a not so great script, a way over target budget of $300 million, and that it may feature Blofeld as the villain.

Craig has been quite vocal about his desire to not play the role. In 2012 he told Rolling Stone,

“I’ve been trying to get out of this from the very moment I got into it. But they won’t let me go, and I’ve agreed to do a couple more, but let’s see how this one does, because business is business and if the shit goes down, I’ve got a contract that somebody will happily wipe their ass with.”
