As soon as 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later came out, fans immediately jumped on the possibility of a 28 Months Later. Now, according to screenwriter, Alex Garland, says the third installment in the series may be happening.
Garland worked on the first installment originally but according to IGN he is in talks with Danny Boyle, the director, to begin the next chapter. Garland describes the process as being in “quite serious conversations” with Boyle to make the third film.
“We’ve got an idea. Danny [Boyle] and [producer] Andrew [Macdonald] and I have been having quite serious conversations about it so it is a possibility. It’s complicated. There’s a whole bunch of reasons why it’s complicated, which are boring so I won’t go into them but there’s a possibility.”
The franchise can be partly responsible for bringing the zombie film genre back into the mainstream. The films present zombies a bit differently however, as they are rage virus infected and not technically dead.
While the third film hasn’t been officially announced and also not officially named, it is in the works and the name is likely it to stick with the theme of the previous two movies.
