The first trailer for the upcoming film, The Voices, released this week and it features Ryan Reynolds talking to his pets and them talking back. As you can imagine, this doesn’t end well for the poor young man.
Reynolds plays a sweet and shy young man who is having psychiatric issues as he begins hearing voices particularly those coming from his two pets, a cat and dog. They aren’t nice voices either. They begin telling him to do things like killing because it would make him feel “truly alive.”
Jerry (Reynolds), a lovable but disturbed factory worker, who finds himself developing a relationship with a woman in accounting. When their relationship takes a turn, Jerry begins talking to his sinister cat and benevolent dog, battling the temptations of evil and eventually finding himself on a murderous rampage. Sounds like a laugh riot, right?
The Voices originally premiered last year at the Sundance Film Festival and somehow hadn’t made a splash since. It was directed by Marjane Satrapi (Persepolis).
As well as starring, Reynolds provides the voices of his inner psychosis the Cat and Dog as well as the voices of a couple other talking animals that pop up in the film. co-starring is Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect, Up in the Air), Gemma Arterton (Byzantium) and Jacki Weaver (Animal Kingdom, Silver Linings Playbook).
The Voices movie hits theaters and VOD Feb. 6. You can watch the trailer below:
