Marvel Reveals A-Force, an All-Female Avengers Replacement

aforce-1-121655

Marvel Comic announced last week a new all female comic team to replace the Avengers. “A-Force” will replace the Avengers during an upcoming Secret Wars crossover arc.

The series will include notable female superheroes such as She-Hulk, Medusa, Dazzler, Nico Minoru, and many more. They will also be introducing a new superhero named Singularity. The character was a pocket universe that gained sentience during the events that led up to Secret Wars, and without an innate gender, she chose to become female.

According to Wilson, this gives the writers a chance to “strip (gender studies) all the way down to the basics” while allowing them to explore what it means to be a woman.

The handful of characters to join A-Force were hand-picked by Wilson and her editor, Daniel Ketchum.

“We’ve purposefully assembled a team composed of very different characters — from disparate parts of the Marvel U, with very different power sets, identities and ideologies,” Wilson said. “They’ll all have to come together to answer some big questions: What would you sacrifice to succeed? What is being a hero worth?”

The A-Force team will headup their efforts from their secret headquarters n Arcadia, the Amazonian “feminist paradise” region of Battleword, in order to take on a villain from Marvel’s past.

“A-Force” will be written by G. Willow Wilson (Ms. MarvelX-Men) and Marguerite Bennett (Angela: Asgard’s Assassin), with art by Jorge Molina (X-Men). The comic book series will premiere in May.
