After weeks of wondering who would be replacing Jon Stewart in hosting “The Daily Show,” Comedy Central has confirmed that 31-year-old correspondent Trevor Noah would be taking over the reigns.
Despite hopes that Jessica Williams would take over, Noah was also rumored to be favored by CC to replace Stewart. Among the talented people suggested to host the program, such names as Jason Jones, Samantha Bee, and Tina Fey. (A female host was heavily suggested as many of the late night programs are male dominated at Comedy Central.)
Noah is a relative newcomer to “The Daily Show” He joined the program in December of last year and has only appeared so far in three segments. However, previously he hosted a late-night talk show of his own in South Africa as well as a few radio programs and the South African Music Awards.
Stewart commented about the announcement saying,
“I’m thrilled for the show and for Trevor. He’s a tremendous comic and talent that we’ve loved working with…In fact, I may rejoin as a correspondent just to be a part of it!!!”
Reportedly, Stewart will be staying until sometime between July and December.
