The next few years are going to be inundated with remakes of your favorite movies from the last 20 and 30 years. (Whether you like it or not.) The most recent remake announcement is a big name reboot of the Gremlins franchise.

The original film released in 1984 classic from Joe Dante follows a young man who receives a strange creature called a mogwai as a pet, which then spawns other creatures who transform into small, destructive, evil monsters.

According to a report from Nerdist, Warner Bros. is eyeing Carl Ellsworth to script the remake. He has previously written films The Last House on the LeftDisturbia and the yet-to-be-released Goosebumps movie. The director is rumored to be Chris Columbus, the original film’s screenwriter.

A release date has not yet been set for the Gremlins remake. They have not announced any plot details yet or whether or not the film would be a straight remake or just a reboot to the franchise itself.
