Hulu Scores the Streaming Rights to Community Season 6

Hulu already has streaming rights to the first 5 seasons but it was announced recently that they have nabbed the rights to stream the sixth season of “Community.”

This is a huge win as the sixth season of the series actually streamed on Yahoo Screen (something most of us never got around to figuring out.) Now, the series will be complete thanks to Hulu purchasing the rights.

Now someone just needs to produce the movie and we will all be set.

Community Season 6 Premiere Date Announced

“Community” season 6, the resurrected tv series courtesy of Yahoo, finally has a premiere date. The upcoming season will air the first two episodes on Yahoo! on March 17, with a new episode every Tuesday after that.

The show was created by Dan Harmon for NBC before it was cancelled after season 5 after cancellation was threatened for several years. Season 6 will see the return of series stars Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Allison Brie, Danny Pudi, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong.

Harmon was asked whether the season on Yahoo! would be the show’s final season (again) and Harmon responded that he’s “definitely not writing it as if it’s the end.” Harmon also revealed that each new episode would be less of a theme per episode and rather it would be “just a bunch of Community-themed episodes.” The loss of Shirley, played by Yvette Nicole Brown who announced she would not return for season 6, will be explored in the first episode.

“This show has learned how to survive like a pine tree. We retain moisture.” He then went on to joke that “it’ll be weird when we get canceled by the Internet and just become a roving band of improvising street performers.”

Yvette Nicole Brown Leaving Community Season 6

The Greendale Seven is now down to the Greendale Four as Yvette Nicole Brown has announced she will not be returning for the show’s highly anticipated sixth season.

Brown starred as Shirley Bennett on the first five seasons but reportedly asked producers Dan Harmon and Chris McKenna to release her from her contract due to personal family reasons.

She told TVGuide that the decision came due to her father falling ill.

“My dad needs daily care and he needs me,” Brown informed TVGuide. “The idea of being away 16 hours a day for five months, I couldn’t do it. It was a difficult decision for me to make, but I had to choose my dad.”

Harmon and McKenna released a joint statement regarding Brown leaving the cast. They said,

“Yvette was an integral part of Community and is irreplaceable. We are sad to see her go and wish her the very best.”

Unfortunately Brown isn’t the only cast member not returning. Jonathan Banks will not be a season 6 cast member due to the AMC series, “Better Call Saul.”

To fill the gaps, “Community” is casting for two new characters: a woman who has been “brought in as a consultant to help shape up the school” and a “retired salesman who comes to Greendale to reinvent himself.”

Community Gets Sixth Season On Yahoo – Be Jubilant!

It was down to the wire, but “Community” has been revived for a sixth season on Yahoo Screen! The cast’s contracts were set to expire tonight at midnight so the show had to be renewed today at the latest and thankfully Yahoo came to the rescue.

Show creator Dan Harmon and cast members Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong have all agreed to be involved in the sixth season.

“Community” Season 6 on Yahoo Screen will consist of 13 episodes being released all at once. One step closer to #SixSeasonsAndaMovie.

Harmon released a statement,

“I am very pleased that ‘Community’ will be returning for its predestined sixth season on Yahoo. I look forward to bringing our beloved NBC sitcom to a larger audience by moving it online. I vow to dominate our new competition. Rest easy, ‘Big Bang Theory.’ Look out, BangBus!”

McHale also commented,

“‘The reports of our cancellation have been greatly exaggerated.’ —Mark Twain (The other version of this quote has been wrong for years). #SixSeasonsAndaMovie is real. Thank you Sony. Thank you Yahoo. Thank you Dan Harmon. And thank you to the greatest f%$#ing fans in the history of the human race. It’s the Internet. We can swear now.”

Yahoo CMO Kathy Savitt knows a good move when she sees it. She said,

“Yahoo is all about connecting the best creators to the audiences who love their work. ‘Community’ has an incredibly passionate and loyal fan base who have fought hard to keep this amazing show alive. We couldn’t be more excited to work with Dan, Joel, and the entire cast, as well as Sony, to deliver a great season 6.”
