New Trailer for Star Wars Spin Off “Rogue One” Released

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has officially released the final trailer and it revealed some pretty interesting information regarding the plot of the upcoming spin off. Check out the trailer above!

In the final trailer we get a glimpse into the reasons why Jyn Erso is so crucial to the Rebel Alliance’s plans to steal the plans for the Death Star. It turns out her father built the damned thing.

Rogue One takes place after Revenge of the Sith and before A New Hope. It focuses on the team tasked with stealing the plans for the first Death Star that are so instrumental to the original Star Wars from 1977.

Many fans have been concerned about the fact that Rogue One had gone through reshoots during production but based on this trailer, it doesn’t appear that too much has been altered in terms of tone and feel from the first trailer we saw.

Just a few more months before we see this rag tag team’s story play out even though we know how it ends.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Needs Reshoots

The upcoming “Star Wars” spinoff film, Rogue One, is stuck doing reshoots in mid-June for four more weeks. Thankfully the reshoots do not delay the release of the film on December 16.

According to the website, Uproxx, reshoots were already scheduled in June for Rogue One. However, the reasoning behind the reshoots for Rogue One has now been clarified. Reportedly, Disney decided the project needed the reshoots after watching the rough cut of the film. They decided it didn’t give off the feeling that other “classic” Star Wars movies had. Per The Hollywood Reporter, one viewer described Rogue One as “having the feel of a war movie.” Deadline is also reporting that the reshoots are being done because producers thought that Rogue One needed more of an edge, closer to what Force Awakens had.

There have also been rumors that the reshoots give Rogue One a chance to add a cameo by young Han Solo, played by Alden Ehrenreich, to the plotline.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens also had three weeks of reshoots during its production.

In a wonderful surprise in what was an insanely rough week for everyone last week (oh, wait that was just me? Okay well it is still a wonderful surprise), we got the first and very unexpected trailer for the upcoming “Star Wars” spinoff movie.

Rogue One, or Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, released a teaser trailer and even though it is short it is amazing.

The first spinoff film takes place before the events of A New Hope but after Revenge of the Sith and centers around a band of rebels who plan to steal the plans for the Death Star. It follows a new character, a young woman played by Felicity Jones known as Jyn Erso, who would seemingly become a rebel spy working against the Empire in the earlier days of the Rebellion.

One of the most exciting bits of the teaser however is MON MOTHMA! The character’s reappearance from Revenge of the Sith is super exciting.

Rogue One has an impressive cast including Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen and Alan Tudyk.

The film is currently due for a Dec. 16 release. You can watch the teaser below:

Upcoming Star Wars Movie Schedule

With Episode VII under our belts, we have a lot to look forward in the “Star Wars” universe. “The Force Awakens” was beautiful and everything we deserved after the sub-par prequels and if that film is any indication of what we have ahead of us then we have several amazing years in store.

Check out the schedule of all the films and spin-offs so you know exactly what to be excited for.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

The first “Star Wars” spin off film is set to be directed by the Godzilla director Gareth Edwards. Rogue One will tell a story that exists between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, where Rebel Alliance soldiers work to steal the plans to the original Death Star.

Release Date: December 16, 2016

Star Wars: Episode VIII

The sequel to “The Force Awakens”/Episode VII. J.J. Abrams bows out and passes torch to Rian Johnson, who is directing the next main story installment. Knowing what we know from Force, Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson) and Snoke (Andy Serkis) will continue to make life difficult for Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega) and ace pilot Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac). Benicio Del Toro recently snagged a role but details haven’t been released regarding who he will be playing (we are guessing dark side? ) Much like Episode VII we are guessing they will stay mum on storyline.

Release Date: May 26, 2017

Young Han Solo Movie

The details here are even more scarce if you can believe it. We know that Disney is planning a Han Solo movie, and they’ve hired a few creative voices for development but that is about it. Lawrence Kasdan will co-write the script, while 21 Jump Street and The LEGO Movie wizards Phil Lord and Chris Miller will share the director’s chair. No one has been hired to PLAY young Solo yet. Chris Pratt maybe???

Release Date: May 25, 2018

Star Wars: Episode IX

This is pretty far in the future and therefor at the moment all we know about Star Wars: Episode IX is that it will conclude the trilogy started in The Force Awakens, and it will be helmed by Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow.  He’ll have access to Force stars like Daisy Ridley and John Boyega. If anyone else makes it through all three movies has yet to be revealed.

Release Date: 2019

A Boba Fett Movie

How could anyone NOT want a bounty hunter movie? Due to complications during development this spinoff is still in development limbo unfortunately but Disney is still highly motivated to make it happen. However, they are also not rushed considering how many years ahead they are already booked.

Release Date: Rumored for 2020

The casting for the “Star Wars” spin-off film, Rogue One, has officially begun.

Diego Luna has officially joined the cast as of this week. He role has not been announced. Luna is most known for his roles in Y Tu Mamá También and Elysium.

The plot for Rogue One is said to follow a group of resistance fighters who attempt to steal the blueprints to the Death Star. Not much is known about the plot other than that but it does date the film as taking place before the original trilogy. This possibly means that the whole plot will be focused around what we already know is a failed attempt. More plot details are expected to be released over the next few months.

Luna joins already announced cast members, Felicity Jones, Riz Ahmed, Sam Claflin, and Ben Mendelsohn.

The officially named Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One is set to be released on Dec. 16, 2016, which seems so far away.
