If you watched “The Office” there were two relationships you probably hoped somehow transferred into real life. Jim and Pam (of course) and then Kelly and Ryan (although much less dysfunctionally.) Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak just had such on screen chemistry that it was hard to believe they didn’t really belong together. While they may not be on the Kelly/Ryan level, the duo are actually really close in real life.
It was recently announced that the duo are co-writing a book about their actual real life and incredibly adorable and unique relationship. According to Kaling, their real-life relationship is not to far of a stretch from their on-screen appearance. Kaling calling it “weird as hell” and furthering explaining it more of a “romantically charged camaraderie with loud arguments” than a traditional romance or friendship.
The book will be announced at BookCon on May 30. Kaling will be there to promote her new essay collection titled, “Why Not Me?”
Our dreams may be coming true. Ricky Gervais, the comedian who starred in the BBC sitcom “The Office” (and one of my own personal favorite people as well) recently spoke about the chance that the much beloved series could find new life from BBC and Netflix.
Gervais recently told Radio Times magazine that both of the programming giants were interested in creating a spinoff.
“It could happen,” Gervais told the Radio Times. I love David Brent, but I can’t just do it as a vanity project, because the BBC and Netflix are up for it,” he said. “I don’t know whether to do an on-the-road special or make that the whole series.”
The series, which was co-created and co-written by Gervais and Stephen Merchant, went off air 10 years ago but the comedian resurrected his famous character, David Brent, for Britain’s Comic Relief charity show in 2013, and for the subsequent launch of Gervais’ own YouTube channel. The character is currently touring U.K. concert venues with his fictional band, Foregone Conclusion. It is also rumored that the character Brent and his band may be featured at the Glastonbury music festival later this year.
“The Office” was later remade in the U.S. starring Steve Carell.
Currently, BBC and Netflix have not immediately commented on Gervais’ remarks.
