If you have watched a single episode of the cult hit, “Firefly” (or maybe you have seen every episode hundreds of times) then you probably wished for the chance to join the Browncoats and fight off the Alliance. Making a video game of this seems easy. It feels like it should happened years ago. So I was understandably excited when I heard we were finally getting a “Firefly” game. Then I heard the truth.
We are not getting the awesome space pirate-like online action roleplaying game that we hoped for. According to the Fox press release, we are getting “a multi-user, social online role-playing game that will initially be available for smartphones and tablets, including those based on iOS and Android operating systems.”
Are you fucking kidding me? Seriously? I think the collective internet just threw their hands up in disgust as if to say, “alright, I’m done.”
The “game” known as Firefly Online is being developed by Spark Plug Games, the studio responsible for a number of mobile games like Dairy Queen Tycoon and Plight of the Zombie. Some people are saying we should give it a chance but when have you known a “social online-role playing game” for your mobile device to be rewarding at all? Will they also make it just basically a money farm banking on fans of the series buying all the upgrades like most mobile games rely on? We will find out when it final product is released next year.
You can go ahead and sign up here if you want to give it a chance.
