Wind Waker HD’s Hero Mode Explained

Nintendo has officially confirmed that the upcoming Wii U title, “The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD,” will feature a “Hero Mode.” Nintendo product marketing manager Erik Peterson told GameSpot that the new Hero Mode is aimed toward long-time series fans looking for a new challenge in the much beloved game. 

“For those veteran Zelda fans, people who really love a challenge, Hero Mode is going to be great,” Peterson said.

The all-new Hero Mode will include all enemies doing double damages as well as a lack of hearts to be found within the environment. The game mode was described as being similar to “The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword” in that it can be toggled on or off when a player loads their save file. This allows players to trial the advanced difficulty option without being locked in for their entire playthrough.

The Hero Mode was first revealed by an Amazon listing last month.

“The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD” launches in October. The game will be playable at PAX Prime next week. You can watch the E3 trailer for the game below:
