I am not a risk taker in my daily life. I don’t ride rollercoasters and I don’t go to the shady part of town and I don’t do drugs. How do I get my adrenaline pumping and my heart racing? Horror movies, shows about murders (I’m looking at your Investigation Discovery) and scary video games. “Amnesia: The Dark Descent” is one of the more terrifying games I have ever played and I will probably not go back to it out of fear for my poor heart but I WILL play any game its publisher makes. This week, Frictional Games, the dark minds behind the Amnesia games have released a gameplay video of their latest nightmare inducing adventure: “SOMA.”
“SOMA” seems to have everything you need to make an utterly horrifying game. Dark atmosphere with creepy visions, menacing soundtrack, and an overwhelming unnerving feeling from just watching the gameplay trailer.
The game is described as an aberrant tale of scientific inquiry and survival; an entropic exploration of synapse and circuit that wades through the delusions of human consciousness.
Three years in the making, “SOMA” is a unique continuation of Frictional Games’ signature style of explorative horror, provocative storytelling, and unfathomable tension, free of distracting cut-scenes and combat. It is coming to PC and PlayStation 4 in 2015.
