Peter Mayhew to Return as Chewbacca for Star Wars: Episode VII

By on April 7, 2014

In very exciting “Star Wars” news, our beloved wookie Chewbacca is returning to the upcoming seventh installment! Peter Mayhew, the actor inside the costume, has announced he is reprising his role in Star Wars: Episode VII.

Mayhew originally played Chewbacca in the original trilogy as well as Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. He also appeared in several one-off performances such as the Christmas special.

Rumors first began swirling when Mayhew cancelled an appearance at a recent convention “due to filming.” Fans were left speculating whether the cancellation meant he was working on the “Star Wars” film. Turns out our dreams are real and Mayhew will grace the screen once more.

Also in “Star Wars” news, Disney boss Alan Horn revealed this past week that J.J. Abrams’ Episode VII has already started filming. Surprisingly we still do not know who is playing the film’s trio of new leads. We also have no news regarding what the return of original series actors Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher will mean for the film.
