Josh Trank Directing a Star Wars Standalone Movie

Josh Trank

As if a new Episode was not enough, LucasFilm has officially announced that Josh Trank will direct a new spinoff film in the “Star Wars” franchise.

At the moment we don’t have any details about the film. Previous reports have said that the plan is to release a Star Wars movie every year, with the new trilogy installments opening two years apart. With Episode VII opening in 2015 and the Edwards movie in 2016, presumably, that would mean the Trank Star Wars movie would open in 2018, the year after Episode VIII.

Kathleen Kennedy, the president of LucasFilm, announced the news today saying,

“We’re thrilled to welcome Josh into the family. He is such an incredible talent and has a great imagination and sense of innovation. That makes him perfectly suited to Star Wars, and for this new slate of movies that reach beyond the core characters and storylines of Episodes I through IX.”

Trank also said in a press release,

“The magic of the Star Wars Universe defined my entire childhood. The opportunity to expand on that experience for future generations is the most incredible dream of all time.”

Trank first impressed audiences with his film Chronicle. He is also about to begin production on a new “Fantastic Four” movie.
