Unfortunately BBC is not breaking tradition with the next season “Sherlock.” The series has notoriously taken LONG breaks in-between seasons and the same will happen with season 4. But at least we are getting a fourth season, right?
The BBC officially announced that they will begin filming a Christmas special and season 4 during 2015. This is good news and bad news. It means we will likely get the Christmas special in 2015 but season 4 won’t wire until 2016.
We can blame the long break partly on the popularity of stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. Executive producer Sue Vertue pointed out that “It’s taken a little while to get the dates sorted as none of the boys are exactly sitting back twiddling their thumbs but there was unanimous goodwill to make this work, so we’re thrilled that 221b is going to be inhabited again.”
Steven Moffat commented on the events of the season 3 finale and what it means for season 4,
“Of course, it’s far too early to say what’s coming, but we’re reasonably confident that the very next thing to happen to Sherlock and John, is the very last thing you’d expect…”
